What We Do
We do more than you might think. Here’s just some of the range of things we get involved in: we input to planning applications, we work to enhance the appearance of the town, we put on talks and walks, and we produce books and information.
Above all, we try to preserve what’s best about our special town, whilst encouraging appropriate projects that recognise and celebrate its rich heritage.
In this section we also explain who does what in the Society.
Meetings and Minutes
Here you can read our minutes of the Society’s trustee meetings over the past six months. You’ll also find some older information such as summaries of a few of our talks, and some news items.
If you’re looking for details of our talks and walks, please click on the “News and Events” page which has a full listing of this year’s events
Local Projects
We play a key role in promoting and developing heritage projects that enhance our town, and there’s a lot going on at the moment.
You can read more here about the campaign to save Horncastle’s Roman Wall, where we worked in partnership with other organisations to conserve this precious artefact for future generations. There’s much more too, including new information boards, blue plaques, sculptures and renovated “ghost signs”.
Where there’s heritage in need of recognition, we’ll be there.
Merchandise
We have a wide variety of books available to buy. They’re written by experts in their subject, and nearly all are published by us. We also have some DVDs for sale.
You can buy all our merchandise from the Joseph Banks Centre in Horncastle, and coming soon will be a facility to buy our products through our website. Keep an eye on this page for developments.
We also have plenty of guidance leaflets available to help you enjoy visiting and living in Horncastle.
Membership
If you’d like to know more about the town and help preserve it, why not join the Society? Our membership packages offer a range of benefits, and you’ll be made to feel very welcome.
We issue all new members with a starter pack which will bring you right up to date with our current events and projects.
