Archive Centre
The Archive Room at the Joseph Banks Centre is open each Tuesday & Wednesday from 10.00am to 12.30pm or by appointment using the form on our contact page.
The Archive Room is accessed by a separate door to the side of the Joseph Banks Centre, through a small gate. If you have an appointment, please ring the bell and we’ll be down to let you in.
We have a wide-ranging archive of material relating to the town, and a library of local books, all of which are catalogued digitally. Please click on the Historical Documents Inventory section for more details.
Donating documents or artefacts to our Archives
The Society is most grateful for the continuing donations to our extensive collections of documents, artefacts and photographs relating to the town, which include:.
- Mortons’ Almanacs 1933/34/35 – donated by Brian Lovely
- 21 books relating to Horncastle – Pearl Wheatley
- All David Vale’s original sketches for the book Horncastle Then & Now – Pete Harness
- William Marwood collection of letters, pictures, biography items – Paul Scott
- A collection of books about the life and artworks of the painter Thomas Sully – Colin Gascoyne

Personal Memories
These memories have been collected by our Members from older residents in the town and often provide detail that cannot be found on the pages of books.
Historical Documents Inventory
The Society’s collection of maps, articles, books, photographs, and artefacts etc., are available to study for free to our members (a small charge applies for non-members) in our Archive room at the Joseph Banks Centre on Bridge Street in Horncastle.
We are constantly adding to our town archive, so if there is a particular subject you are interested in please check on a regular basis in case we have more information for you.
